Title: Coolest Duckpin bowling party ever!
We just had a party for my son and daughter at Devon Duckpin Bowling here in Milford. They had a wonderful time with all of thier friends!!! Said it was so cool they want to do it again next year! It is a family run party spot that I would personally recommend checking out for your kids party if you are in the area. Pricing is reasonable for what you get for a party too! (For more info you can see my wedding and party directory on my website)
I made up custom invites and favors for them of course. This year they "ordered" from Mom... bowling pin and bowling ball invitations in scooby doo and spiderman themes. Minis to go into treat bags also had to match. I also had to make a cake that went along with their theme too. I created a bowling alley cake for the occaision.
2 boxes of cake mix 2 frosting containers 2 different color yo go roll boxes 2 boxes of sugar wafers
I also printed out bowling pins that I had created for thier invitations and stuck them onto bamboo skewers and into the cake in bowling pin formation.
I printed out small bowling balls and pasted them on the ball return part of the cake and also the middle of each alley.

Local Mompreneur to attend international online convention mentioned in Forbes.
Milford, Connecticut October 5, 2007 Christine Downs of It's A Wrap Invitations and Favors will be attending the international online convention called Wrapfest on October 24th through 28th 2007. She was chosen last year as the convention's Candy Wrapper of the Year.
“ I was deeply honored to have been chosen last year as “Candy Wrapper of the Year”. I had logged in that day to congratulate the winners and had no idea that I had been chosen to win”
This year Downs will present the next winner for “Candy Wrapper of the Year” with an invitation and candy wrapper set she has designed herself. As well as contributing to the goody bag of graphics that all attendees will receive and teaching a class on Creative Displays.
“I am so excited to be passing the “crown” this way to another person in my profession. It is like waiting for christmas to come! There are so many talented graphic designers I know and I am happy to be in their company for this event.”
Wrapfest was mentioned in an article in Forbes about online conventions:
http://www.forbes.com/entrepreneurs/2007/09/14/amd-ibm-microsoft-ent-sales-cx_ll_0913virtual.html
“Having the convention mentioned in Forbes was a such a surprise! The event planners, Belver Ladson and Rich Fallon are wonderful mentors and work so hard at creating this convention. It is a wonderful way for the international candy wrapper community to get together and learn different things about our profession”.

Title: Office Renovation! YIPPEE!!!!

above is a sideshow of my new office in the works!! I have been working in the dining room for quite some time since we moved here. At Last! we are renovating our sunroom into an office for me!! I am so excited! It is 7x12, and will have venetian plaster on the walls, terra cotta tile for the floor, and I can't wait to get to the decorating part!!! Luckily my husband is a carpenter (that's him in the pictures) and can rebuild the room for me. I have not been able to use it before since it had only storm windows (yep, the thin window panes and screen, nothing else) So in the summertime, it was an oven in there, and in the winter it was so cold even a space heater did not heat it up enough to stay out there. We found out while tearing the paneling off the room, that there were big holes in the exterior wood, it was not insulated, and the windows not being effecient were not doing a whole lot for it in terms of climate control. Now with just 2 efficient windows and the sliding door in front, it is much cooler there even on the hottest days here. OOOOH! can't wait until it is finished!!!

Title: great cake decorating
One of my favorite things is to watch the food network challenge when they do cakes. I am always facinated by the way they design them and the wild ideas for decorating them.
Wilton has a new cake decorating yearbook out. http://www.wilton.com/store/site/product.cfm?sku=pg_2008yearbook&killnav=1
You have got to see the photos in this book! The castle on the cover is amazing! I just wish my daughter wanted a princess birthday again so I could make it.

Title: Surfing with the kids!
Had a great time this weekend creating a set for a special request of my kids. They wanted me to design something with a surfing theme since that penquin movie they want to see (Surf's Up) is coming out soon. I made a blank surf board and let them pick the colors and what they wanted to use for surfboard stickers. We had a great time creating this together! My kids love to play with my paint shop pro design software and they are only 8 and 5. Here is a peek at our fun new family project.

Title: Spring wedding season is here!
I have been busy making major changes to some of my wedding invitation and favor sets today. I have released several new ones. My favorite one is River, which is from a picture I took in New Hampshire last year. I have just not been able to get to taking it off the "drawing board" until now. I have also retired my oldest invitations. Sorry to anyone who may have wanted them this year, but I think you will agree that they have made room for better and more interesting sets to offer to my customers for weddings. I have several more that are in the "working on it" stage and will be released on my wedding anniversary in October. I will be offering a 25% off coupon for brides who order in October or are booking for October to celebrate my own wedding anniversary. So check back for a gift for you!

Title: Baby Shower Planning
Planning a Home Baby Shower
Congratulations! You're planning a baby shower for someone special! To throw a great party to welcome a little one to the world, you will need to find out what your budget is for this event.
make a checklist of what you will need for this type of event to help you figure out your budget.
Setting Menu Guest List Invitations Favors Decorations Wishing Well (Bassinet) Games
Setting: If your budget is tight, you may opt for a baby shower at home. When making your guest list for a home shower, take into consideration the ammount of space you have and how many guests you can accomodate comfortably and still have room for large sized gifts. Ask a friend or other family member of the mom- to-be if they would be interested in helping you out by co-hosting it if they have a larger home.
Menu:The menu for this type of shower could be anything from finger foods, brunch, or a luncheon depending upon the time you are planning the shower for. Find out what the favorite foods mom- to-be so she has a great selection to munch on. Another thing she will appreciate is if you have taken the time to find out if there are any foods that make her feel sick. This you should be able to find out easily from her spouse or significant other.
Guest List: A Baby Shower is a wonderful event that you want to have everyone share in. When making up your guest list for a home shower, you are limited to the ammount of guest you can fit into your home. Start with immediate family first. Great grandmothers should still get an invitation at least even if you know they are unable to attend. Have a ”wish list” of other people you would like to invite.
Invitations: Decide if your shower will have a theme. If you do not know the sex of the baby, any design in pastels will do. Once you have chosen the look of your shower, look for invitations that match that theme. You should plan to send your invitations out at least a month in advance. This will allow you time to add some guests from your “wish list” if there are a few who are unable to attend. Be sure to include in the invitations places where the mom-to-be has registered for gifts as well as a baby wishing well poem if you choose to include one as part of your party.
Favors: Choose something that best matches the invitations you are sending if you have a specific theme. Favors can be anything from candles to little personalized candies spread on the tables.
Decorations: Create a simple and easy look with confetti and colorful favors spread around your tables. Placing a plain white table cloth on each of the tables will make your decorations stand out. Especially if your favors are different colors. You can even use your favors as a quick and easy centerpice by placing them all in a circle in the center of the tables.
Games: Some great traditional games are:
Guess MOM's Size: All you need is a spool of party ribbon. Ask guests to look at the mom-to-be and estimate how big her belly is.
Baby Food Taste Test: at each table have 4 jars of baby food. Take off the jar lables and replace with a number. Make sure you write down what flavor each numbered jar is. The goal of this is to see who can correctly guess each of the baby foods on the table.
Baby Shower Bingo: This will be played while mom is opening the gifts! Get a copy of the mom-to-be's gift registry. On a sheet of paper, set up a bingo grid with different words in each square. Be sure to make at least 4-5 different cards up and photocopy enough for all of your guests. Pass out the cards and little bits of paper they can use for chips to cover the words. The winner has a list of covered gifts in diagonal or accross or up and down order.
Have Fun Planning!

Title: New Wedding Favors
Last night I added some new items to my wedding favor page. These are some that I have had saved in my archives for a while but forgot they were there. I have been going through my files to make room for more items and found these.
I have had a busy week so far. Saturday, my daughter and I did Relay for Life with the American Cancer Society. We were on our church's team and we slept overnight there. More like my daughter slept for the whole team, and the rest of us stayed up because the dj and lights were going all night on the football field where it was held.
I will be going through my baby and wedding items soon to get pictures set up of the different favors that come with each set. If anyone wants to see what they look like currently, you can look at the kid's birthday party theme sets and there are some already set up that way.
I also did a new look for the site!!!! I really loved this template when I saw it and now will have my business cards printed to look this way too.
